The Oracle Management Cloud is a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution, and with that you get the benefits of continual enhancements and developments to the platform.

To get an idea of the changes which are occurring look here.

In the February Release, there were some new introductions into Windows Log Functionality. Originally the OMC Log Analytics could only consume the four default types of Windows Logs as below:

When you create a log source now and specify Windows Event Systems, you now have the ability to add custom logs.

In the ‘Add – Log Channel Name’ section you specify the name of the Log which you want to collect.

The way this is translated from OMC to Windows is as follows:

If your log file is called:

%SystemRoot%\System32\Winevt\Logs\DFS Replication.evtx

Then in OMC you add in:

DFS Replication

The .evtx and path is already defined for you.  It really is that simple. Each channel you add will become a Log Entity with the Log Source being the logical collection. Therefore if you go to the Visualisation tool in OMC you will by default see the Log Source but not the Log Entities. To show the Log Entities you simply drag and drop them into the display field.

Then using the Visualisation tool it gives you a clearer view of what’s being returned.
