Senior Consultant – Exadata

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of technical professionals providing IT services to remotely-located clients
  • Monitor and assess client system behaviour and status, identifying, planning and implementing improvements
  • Frequent contact with a range of client contacts, at all levels of responsibility, is key. You will typically develop and maintain a working relationship with client contacts via phone, email and on-site visits. You will need to describe planned and actual work completed to client representatives in language appropriate to their level of technical knowledge
  • Travelling to and from various clients, exhibitions and locations in the UK, including Red Stack Tech offices when required

Skills and Experience

  • Experience of Oracle Database Administration (11g required)
  • Oracle Exadata experience essential
  • Able to manage multiple RDBMS across versions and platforms
  • Proven experience working within a team and 3rd party environment
  • Practical experience of PL/SQL, SQLPlus
  • Proven track record providing production support including monitoring and tuning
  • Experience of Oracle ASM, RAC, Oracle CRS/Grid Infrastructure
  • Experience with AWR, ADDM, ASH and other tuning
  • Experience of installing and configuring Oracle RDBMS across versions and platforms (11g required)
  • Experience providing upgrades and patches to all components of Oracle RDBMS, RAC, Grid Infrastructure
  • Experience of either VLDB or consolidated environments preferable
  • Virtualization experience preferable
  • Networking skills (basic) preferable (for Infiniband debugging)
  • Experience of backup and recovery using RMAN
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux to a level below a dedicated Systems Administrator
  • Good spoken English and a positive telephone manner
  • Good written English for formal, informal information exchange with clients and the team
  • Triaging and diagnosing issues passed from more junior managed service team members Ideal candidate will have experience across the technology stack, and be used to working with storage (ASM), network (RAC and IB), and OS level to provide full Exadata support
  • Ensure availability and performance of databases support by the team
  • Ensure services are secure with minimal downtime
  • Provide proactive monitoring of database system
  • Responsible for passing problems to Senior DBAs
  • Attend any customer on-site meetings as required
  • Provide on-call support
